Frequently Asked Questions
What is Lawn Overseeding?
Overseeding is basically spreading grass seeds over an already existing, but thinning lawn. Soil compaction can cause the most beautiful, mature lawn to develop bare spots quickly. Fortunately, we can help return the appeal to your yard by providing our overseeding services. When done correctly, the process enhances the density of your lawn while also improving its color. Make your lawn once again appealing to the eye and thicker than ever!
Why Overseed Your Lawn?
Most people enjoy the thick, lush feel of a healthy lawn. It’s beautiful and more fun to be around. When your lawn is maturing and develops bare spots and thinning, when weed infestation and even poor drainage are combating its beauty, overseeding may be necessary. Thankfully, we can assist you by giving you the best solution for your thinning turf. We can carefully overseed your lawn to bring it back to its prime!
When Should Overseeding Be Done on My Lawn?
Grass seed benefits from frequent rainfall and temperatures between 50-65 degrees to germinate successfully. These conditions mean that Spring and Fall are always favorite times to overseed. If you wait too long after Spring your lawn may be too tired and worn to successfully germinate the new seed and if you overseed to early in Spring (prior to the last freeze), the sprouting grass can freeze and die, leaving room for weeds to thrive. As such, it’s recommended to call us immediately once you notice your lawn is thinning. Our primary purpose revolves around keeping your turf young and green throughout the year no matter the season.
How Do You Overseed?
We will mow the lawn to the required length, which is a lower than a normal setting, and remove any lawn clippings. In order for grass seeds to grow, they will need moisture, warmth, and sunlight. We fill our spreaders with the appropriate amount of seed and spread it evenly over your lawn. Then we go back and fill in any extra bare spots because these spots need more condensed seed to fill in completely. Once that’s done, we recommend you top dress the lawn, covering it in a thin layer of organic material to help shade and protect the seeds.
When Does My Lawn Need Aeration and Overseeding?
When your lawn stays for long without getting watered, it goes dormant. Too much traffic causes compacted soil and this will prevent root growth. It’s at this time that you’ll need to aerate and overseed your turf. Including aeration with overseeding allows for the new root growth to penetrate compacted areas. Never fear, our services are just a call away. We combine these two efficient services; aerating and overseeding, and give back life to your tired grass.
